It started out as a normal day at the cabin. Pancakes for breakfast, tanning on the boat for the girls, and plenty of projects/ cleaning being completed by the boys. We were all relaxing and enjoying the sunshine until church and dinner, which was scheduled for 4 o’clock.
Not suspecting a thing, I headed into the cabin to get ready for the night. I borrowed a sundress from my roommate earlier in the week, and was debating on if I wanted to hop in the shower or not. I'm really glad that I decided to shower and wash my hair.
After everyone was ready to go, we got in the car to drive to church. We were on the road for 10 minutes chatting and listening to music, when Mark realized he “forgot his work phone” at the cabin. I was kind of thinking, hmmmm this is strange? I turned to look at Luke, who was as calm as ever. He even brought up another friend’s proposal in the car ride.
We ended up back at the cabin and Mark and Megan went inside to get his work phone. Everyone seemed very casual and it didn’t seem like there was anything suspicious going on inside.
In that moment Luke turned to me and said, "we're not actually going to church". He escorted me out of the car and we started walking towards the lake. That’s when I saw the hydrangeas and candles lining the dock. He already had tears running down his face before we got to the dock. I was still in shock and trying to process what was going on.
We reached the end of the dock and Luke grabbed the ring box that he hid in a cup holder in the pontoon boat. He got down on one knee and proposed on the dock (without ring insurance). I was in complete shock that this was happening. I seriously thought we were headed to church. Earlier that day at the cabin I asked him if he was ever planning on proposing sometime soon. I was getting a little impatient! (oops)
I said YES and turned around and Dover and Joe were running down the dock snapping photos. They had been hiding in the sauna in the whole time capturing the proposal.
Shortly after that, Luke’s family came down to the dock to congratulate us. Turns out they never left for church at all!!
Next to the dock was my parents, sister, and Austin. I was overjoyed to see everyone and so confused on how they got to the cabin. I found out later on that they got dropped off at the cabin so I wouldn’t see their cars and they hid in the bedroom for the proposal. I was truly not expecting there to be so many of our favorite people waiting to celebrate with us!!
The final surprise was seeing all of our friends pull up in the driveway and run to the dock. They were waiting at Pogos, a restaurant nearby, while we celebrated with our family. The surprises kept coming and by this point I was SHOCKED. My face says it all. I didn’t know how Luke pulled this entire surprise off. We were in the car “to church” for 10 minutes.
It was the best day of our life celebrating with our friends and family. I felt so incredibly special that Luke planned the proposal with so many of our favorite people.
We spent the rest of the night drinking out of our cute custom cups and playing games. It was so fun to hear the proposal stories from our friends and family and what went on in the background. I’m so grateful for how much thought went into this night from everyone!!
We ended the night with a bonfire, where our friends shared their favorite thing about me and Luke as a couple. We felt so special!!!
Finally, we sang karaoke until wayyy too late. I remember trying to soak it all in and being sooo excited to start the next chapter of our lives. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day or Fiancé ❤️
